The Sharjah Libraries & Information Journal (Iqra’a) is a flagship publication of Sharjah Public Libraries, dedicated to advancing the fields of library science, information management, and knowledge dissemination. Rooted in the rich cultural heritage of Sharjah, the journal serves as a platform for scholarly discourse, professional insights, and innovative research in the ever-evolving landscape of libraries and information services.
Mission
To foster intellectual growth, bridge the gap between theory and practice, and contribute to the professional development of librarians, researchers, and information professionals worldwide. It reflects Sharjah’s commitment to promoting literacy, lifelong learning, and knowledge-sharing.
Iqra Magazine: Sharjah Libraries and Information Magazine" represents a distinctive hallmark of the Library Administration within the local, regional, and Arab context. It serves as an intellectual addition that reflects the features of achievements and activates the fundamental networks that have been formed over decades. It also inherently extends the civilizational and cultural accomplishments of Sharjah's renaissance project in its cultural, intellectual, and humanitarian aspects as a whole. The launch of the magazine in its new form is a golden step towards conveying all these voices, achievements, and unique experiences to the communities of interest, specialists, and partners, whether individuals, institutions, or groups. Moreover, the collective contributions from various work teams work to enhance institutional loyalty and belonging to the Authority as a distinguished umbrella operating under the vision and guidance of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, may God protect and safeguard him.
Vision:
A dynamic knowledge model that embodies the current state of scientific research in the field, documents the achievements of library (libraries) management within its community and professional environment, and draws inspiration from Sharjah's civilizational and renaissance project with its cultural, intellectual, and humanitarian dimensions. It constitutes a valuable addition to the specialized knowledge base in terms of application and foresight.
In line with the vision and general direction, the magazine seeks to achieve a set of objectives that align with the goals and vision of the administration and the authority, as well as their strategic plan. These objectives are as follows:
- Support and encourage rigorous scientific research in the field of libraries, information, and knowledge.
- Highlight issues related to information and knowledge services, and the skills, competencies, and knowledge that should be possessed by those working in information facilities and knowledge institutions.
- Anticipate the technological roadmap and its applications in information institutions and monitor expected impacts and changes.
- Present, publish, and document selections from the rich Arab intellectual output in various fields of information and knowledge, as well as their systems, services, and technologies.
- Transferring global experiences in the field of libraries, information, and knowledge, compare them with Arab experiences in the same field, and review opinions about them.
- Establish scientific communication channels among workers in the sector of libraries, information, archives, and document institutions of all kinds, locally, regionally, and internationally.
Scope of the Magazine:
Iqra Magazine: Sharjah Libraries and Information Magazine" is dedicated to publishing theoretical and applied scientific research and studies, in both Arabic and English, in the broad fields of information science, including intersecting disciplines in the humanities, sciences, and technology.
