Abstract

This article presents the publishing experience of the Culture and Science Symposium as an Emirati cultural institution that has made the publication of books, studies, and research an essential part of its intellectual mission since its establishment in 1987. The author explains that the Symposium formed a committee for library, printing, and publishing affairs to examine proposals, select materials suitable for publication, and review books and research according to criteria such as subject importance, relevance to community development, and service to the local and Arab library. The article also outlines the publication procedures, from receiving and reviewing manuscripts to contracting with authors, determining publication rights, and distributing copies. It reviews the Symposium’s main publication series, including Kitab Al-Nadwa, Additional Knowledge, research winning the Al Owais Award, cultural seasons, symposium proceedings, notable Emirati figures, miscellaneous books, and the journal Huruf Arabiyyah. The article is significant as a documentary account of an Emirati institutional model of cultural and scientific publishing that supports research, reading development, and Emirati and Arab cultural memory.
