Abstract
The article examines the problem of publishing Emirati poetry by placing it within the broader context of poetry’s status in Arab culture and the relationship between the book as a cultural medium and the conditions of producing and circulating literary texts. The author discusses the various bodies that have contributed to publishing Emirati poetry, particularly official cultural institutions such as the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information, in addition to private initiatives and publications issued inside and outside the United Arab Emirates. The article refers to poetry collections, critical works, translations, and publications documenting the experience of Emirati poets. It argues that the problem is not merely quantitative, but also concerns selection criteria, distribution mechanisms, the visibility of poetry in cultural life, and the poet’s relationship with publishing institutions. The article concludes that addressing the publishing problem requires a deeper appreciation of poetry, a balance between institutional support and creative freedom, and critical awareness of the distinction between poetic quality and the volume of published output.
