Abstract

This study examines the role of the teacher in e-learning environments in light of the transformations introduced by information and communication technologies into schooling and educational practice. It argues that e-learning does not eliminate the teacher’s role; rather, it reshapes it from a transmitter of information into a facilitator, guide, instructional designer, and manager of interaction among learners, content, and digital media. The study discusses the concept, levels, and forms of e-learning, including computer-based instruction, internet-based learning, virtual classrooms, and electronic schools. It also addresses its key features and benefits, such as flexibility, multiple learning resources, self-directed learning, and the ability to overcome spatial and temporal limitations. At the same time, the study highlights challenges related to technical infrastructure, teacher preparation, content design, learner interaction, and assessment. It concludes that the success of e-learning depends largely on the teacher’s technological and pedagogical competencies, planning skills, ability to guide learners, manage digital learning environments, and employ electronic tools in ways that support educational objectives and learner effectiveness.
