Abstract

This contribution is best understood as a national bibliographic compilation rather than a conventional analytical article. It documents the intellectual output of the United Arab Emirates up to 1998 through a structured bibliography of national publications designed to serve researchers, libraries, and information centers as a tool of bibliographic control and documentary access. Its significance is further reinforced by the fact that it is presented as the fifth edition, indicating an ongoing and cumulative institutional effort to record, preserve, and make accessible the country’s intellectual production in a systematic reference format. The work therefore reflects not only bibliographic listing, but also a broader documentary commitment to mapping the contours of national publishing output.

The internal organization of the file shows that the entries are arranged alphabetically by title and cover a wide range of subject areas related to the UAE, including history, religion, culture, media, law, economics, and society. The compilation concludes with an author index, which substantially increases its research value by facilitating retrieval and reference use. In this sense, the work functions as an important instrument of national bibliography and bibliographic control, contributing to the preservation of the UAE’s intellectual and cultural memory and supporting professional practices in cataloging, bibliographic description, and information services.
