Abstract

This research paper examines the electronic book and electronic publishing within the broader technological transformations affecting the production and circulation of knowledge. It discusses the characteristics of the e-book, including its digital structure, hypertext capabilities, linking, searching, browsing, and integration of multimedia, while clarifying its relationship to the printed book and the limits of difference between them. The paper reviews the stages of e-book preparation, the technical formats used in its creation and delivery, reading devices and software, and methods of distribution through the Internet, databases, disks, and other digital media. It also analyzes electronic publishing as a system that includes authorship, editing, production, distribution, preservation, and access, highlighting its advantages in speed, reduced cost, wider dissemination, and easier content updating. At the same time, it addresses issues related to intellectual property rights, publishing policies, content protection, and barriers to use. The paper concludes that e-books and electronic publishing represent a significant transformation in the book industry and information services, requiring technical, legal, and cultural frameworks to ensure content quality and sustainable access.
