Abstract
This article addresses electronic publishing in libraries as part of the wider shift toward electronic library environments. It defines electronic publishing as the digital dissemination of books, articles, and knowledge resources through modern technologies and information networks. The article highlights the impact of this transformation on libraries, including the availability of electronic books, encyclopedias, databases, and digital information services that facilitate searching, access, and cooperation among libraries. It also emphasizes the advantages of electronic publishing, such as saving time, reducing storage space, and enabling large quantities of information to be carried on compact digital media. At the same time, the article identifies several challenges, including intellectual property rights, language barriers, limited computer literacy among some users, and the inability of many readers to acquire computers or electronic books. It concludes that electronic publishing in the Arab world remains at an early stage and requires clear governmental and institutional support, policy planning, and professional conferences and seminars to improve Arab libraries and help them reach international standards.
