Abstract
This article explores the relationship between knowledge and technological progress, emphasizing the role of modern technology in expanding access to information, accelerating its circulation, supporting education, advertising, e-commerce, communication, and the development of tools for searching and retrieving knowledge. At the same time, it identifies several risks associated with this transformation, including the spread of undocumented information, confusion between reliable knowledge and misleading content, privacy violations, information security threats, and the excessive reliance of young users on networks as their primary source of knowledge. The article also discusses the impact of technological development on libraries and publishing, particularly the shift from printed materials to electronic formats and the improved accessibility made possible by search engines and digital tools. It concludes that printed books and electronic books should not be viewed as mutually exclusive competitors, but as complementary means of serving knowledge, while preserving the value of reading and books as foundations for intellectual growth, imagination, and the pleasure of learning.
