Abstract

This article discusses the ethics of library use as a necessary condition for preserving an organized knowledge environment that enables readers and researchers to benefit from library resources and services. It begins by presenting the library as a cultural, educational, and social institution responsible for collecting, organizing, and providing access to information sources. The article then identifies negative behaviors that may occur among some users, including noise, failure to observe closing times, bringing children into libraries not equipped for them, mistreatment of staff, smoking, eating and drinking in library areas, misuse of internet services, damage to library property, and theft or mutilation of information resources. It also notes factors that may contribute to such problems, such as inadequate services, weak guidance, or limited follow-up procedures. In contrast, the article outlines the ethical responsibilities of librarians, including respect for users, fairness in providing information, confidentiality and privacy, protection of information heritage, professional development, and tolerant communication. It concludes that the quality of library service depends on the shared responsibility of both users and library staff.
