Abstract
This article examines the technological transformations that reshaped reading practices in the early second decade of the twenty-first century by tracing the rise of e-readers, tablet computers, and smartphones as new media for carrying and circulating knowledge. It discusses how portable screens altered the reader’s relationship with text and highlights the role of e-ink, network connectivity, cloud storage, and reading applications in expanding access to books, newspapers, and information. The article compares dedicated reading devices with multifunctional digital devices, emphasizing their technical, economic, and cognitive advantages. It also situates these developments within the broader shift from print-based reading to more interactive, flexible, and mobile digital environments. The article concludes that the transformation of reading tools does not diminish knowledge; rather, it broadens its reach, personalization, and immediacy, making the pocket-sized library one of the most significant symbols of the screen era.
