Abstract

This article examines digital works in the Internet environment from a legal perspective that links the development of information technologies to the challenges of copyright and intellectual property protection. The author identifies major legal issues raised by the Internet, including usage and subscription contracts, users’ rights, information security, and the protection of works published in digital environments. The article discusses the nature of websites and their contents as spaces for publishing news, data, advertisements, audiovisual materials, symbols, and trademarks, highlighting the difficulty of defining the scope of legal protection. It also addresses the protection of multimedia works, emphasizing that texts, images, sounds, software, and databases may qualify for protection when they contain elements of originality and creativity. The article concludes by focusing on the protection of authors’ rights in the digital environment through legislation, contracts, and licensing, while clarifying the conditions under which materials may be lawfully converted into digital form and stressing the need to respect authors’ moral and economic rights.
