Abstract
This publication serves as an annual statistical record documenting the status of the libraries of the Higher Colleges of Technology in 1998. It presents organized data on collections, services, and patterns of use across several college branches in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, and Sharjah. The tables provide detailed figures on holdings by format, including books, computer software, audio materials, video materials, other library materials, and periodical subscriptions, making the publication an important quantitative reference for understanding the information infrastructure of the HCT library system at that stage. It also points to system-wide electronic subscriptions and annual acquisitions, reflecting an institutional commitment to supporting the educational environment through both print and electronic resources.
The significance of this statistical collection lies in the fact that it goes beyond counting holdings to include performance and use indicators such as library staff numbers, enrolled students, library visitors, borrowed items, and reference queries. It therefore provides a solid basis for assessing the efficiency of library services at the Higher Colleges of Technology, measuring the use of resources, comparing branches, and supporting administrative planning and future service development within the higher education context of the United Arab Emirates.
