Abstract
This article discusses the application of the ISO 9001 international standard in the field of libraries and information, presenting it as a managerial framework that helps libraries and information centers improve service quality, organize workflows, and enhance institutional performance. It provides a brief background on the concept of quality and the importance of information awareness in the modern era, then explains the role of the International Organization for Standardization in issuing standards and outlines the development of ISO 9001 and its relevance to library institutions. The article focuses on the requirements for adopting a quality management system in libraries, including identifying user needs, setting objectives, organizing processes, documenting procedures, and improving the work environment. It also highlights the benefits of applying the standard, such as increasing user satisfaction, clarifying staff responsibilities, supporting training, strengthening supplier relations, encouraging teamwork, and improving performance. The article concludes with the main clauses of the standard and a practical example illustrating the book workflow within a library, from acquisition and cataloging to library service and user access.
