Abstract
This study aims to examine the current role of Bibliotheca Alexandrina, as a model of public libraries, in enabling the concept of green sustainability and promoting sustainable behavior among users, and then to propose a strategic approach for activating this role. The study adopts the descriptive analytical method and relies on a sample of 335 users of the library’s services. Two questionnaires were designed: one based on the components of sustainability for enabling the concept of green sustainability, and another to measure the role of Bibliotheca Alexandrina in promoting sustainable behavior. The data were analyzed using frequencies, arithmetic means, standard deviations, and percentages. The study finds that Bibliotheca Alexandrina, as a model of public libraries, achieved a good level of alignment with the expected role according to the sustainability concept under study, while still needing an integrated strategic approach to strengthen sustainable behavior among users. Accordingly, the study proposes a strategic approach comprising eight components to activate the leading role of public libraries in enabling green sustainability and promoting sustainable behavior.
