Archiving of Electronic Libraries in the Arab World and Its Role in Providing Scholarly Services to Researchers

Abstract

Electronic libraries, in light of the concepts and requirements associated with them, have become an urgent necessity whose role in building a system of scholarly support through services provided to researchers cannot be dispensed with. Their characteristics and development have been closely linked to advances in technology and electronic archiving systems, resulting in a diversity of functions across the various stages of transition toward electronic libraries and in the specific requirements and needs associated with each stage. Despite the challenges they face, electronic libraries have nevertheless become recognized and independent entities that play an important role in shaping the future of electronic libraries in the Arab world and in improving the quality of services provided to researchers across different disciplines.
