Abstract

According to the OECD conceptual framework, digital transformation refers to the economic and social effects resulting from digitization and digitalization activities. The OECD defines digitization as the conversion of data and processes into machine-readable form, while digitalization refers to the use of digital technologies and data, and the interconnection between them, in ways that generate new activities or changes in existing activities (OECD, 2018).   The study aimed to identify the role of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) in advocacy for developing digital transformation strategies in libraries and information institutions. IFLA gives considerable attention to advocacy as a means of raising awareness of the role of libraries and information institutions in creating impact within local communities. The study also examines how IFLA’s advocacy efforts can be effectively employed to develop sustainable policies that ensure optimal investment in the opportunities provided by technological developments in the field of digital transformation.
