Abstract

This study aims to clarify the strategic role of libraries and information centers and the extent of their contribution to serving and supporting the educational system. It highlights the contribution of libraries to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals with regard to guaranteeing the right to education, providing access to information, and establishing the value of lifelong learning for all segments of society, while ensuring inclusive quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities. The study also examines the educational responsibility of libraries within the digital environment and the digital education system, as well as the major skills acquired by participants in the educational process through the adoption of learning systems and platforms in the digital environment.   The study adopts the descriptive-analytical method and content analysis to clarify the role of libraries and the extent of their contribution to serving the components of the educational process in the context of the digital transformation of educational institutions.   The study concludes that libraries and information centers contribute effectively to all aspects of the educational environment for both teachers and learners by providing digital learning resources and software, supporting access to information and making it available to all, organizing initiatives and activities in education and information literacy, guaranteeing the right of access to information, and preserving national, scientific, and cultural heritage for present and future generations. Libraries also function as institutions for education, training, and professional, cultural, and social development, while supporting some research and small projects, providing free services to diverse groups, offering continuing education and training programs, reducing the information gap, and facilitating content sharing.   In addition, libraries acquire and provide access to traditional and electronic information resources and international databases, support the dissemination of scientific research by developing research skills among teachers and learners, and foster educational projects and reading initiatives. Libraries also enhance the flexibility of teaching and learning and reduce costs through digital learning platforms that facilitate effective information delivery, enable the use of diverse educational media, and overcome spatial and temporal constraints.
