Abstract

This legal text presents Federal Law No. (7) of 2002 on Copyright and Related Rights in the United Arab Emirates as a legislative framework for protecting literary, artistic, and scientific works and regulating the rights of authors and holders of related rights. The text defines key concepts, the scope of protection, and the categories of works covered by the law. It then outlines authors’ moral and economic rights, the conditions governing their transfer and use, and the duration of protection for different types of works. It also addresses the rights of performers, producers of sound recordings, and broadcasting organizations, while regulating licensing, educational and media uses, library-related exceptions, personal copying, and other permitted limitations. The law concludes with precautionary measures, penalties, and final provisions, reflecting an effort to balance the protection of creative production with legitimate public access to knowledge and cultural materials.
