Abstract

This article examines the dialectical relationship between human beings and language through a cultural and intellectual perspective that links reading, the word, and the formation of human consciousness. The author begins by emphasizing the centrality of reading in shaping the individual’s awareness of the self and the world, then discusses language as a distinctive human attribute that goes beyond speech to include thought, expression, decision-making, memory, and meaning formation. The article reviews different views on the origin of language, including its interpretation as innate, as imitation of natural sounds, as human invention, or as social convention, while drawing on linguistic, religious, and intellectual heritage. It also highlights language reception as a cognitive and aesthetic act requiring attentive engagement with the text and openness to its semantic potential, concluding with the role of language in generating meaning, refining dialogue, and shaping human culture.
