Abstract

This article examines translation as a complex communicative process that is not limited to transferring linguistic meanings between two languages, but also involves understanding the source text within its cultural and cognitive context and reproducing it in the target language in a way that fulfills the function of communication. The author presents several theoretical perspectives from translation studies and linguistics, showing that the translator performs a dual role: first as a receiver of the original text, and then as a producer of a new text. The article explains the stages of translation, beginning with auditory or visual perception of the text, moving through comprehension of lexical, contextual, and cultural meanings, and ending with reformulation and conveyance. It emphasizes that successful translation depends on the translator’s ability to balance fidelity to the source text with clarity in the target language, while accounting for differences between linguistic and cultural systems. The article concludes that translation is a communicative, cultural, and cognitive act that goes beyond verbal transfer to produce meaning that can be understood in a new context.
