Abstract
This publication constitutes an annual statistical record documenting key aspects of library services and operations at the United Arab Emirates University during 1998. Prepared by the Deanship of University Libraries, it serves as a reference tool for monitoring performance and measuring patterns of use across the university’s library system. The material presents organized quantitative data covering major operational areas such as photocopying services, circulation, document delivery, interlibrary loan, and the linguistic distribution of circulation between Arabic and non-Arabic materials, thereby offering insight into the use of collections and services in an academic environment.
The significance of this statistical collection lies in its institutional value as a basis for planning, assessment, and decision-making within the university library system. By tracing monthly performance indicators, highlighting variation across units or branches, and measuring demand for different services, it provides a clearer picture of operational efficiency. It also reflects the cooperative dimension of academic library work through document delivery and interlibrary loan with external institutions. In this sense, the publication stands as an important statistical document for understanding the development, effectiveness, and research-support role of university library services in the higher education context of the United Arab Emirates.
