Abstract

This article discusses the civilizational significance of Islamic libraries as central institutions for disseminating knowledge and learning throughout Islamic history. It highlights their role in collecting books and manuscripts, supporting scholars, stimulating translation and authorship, and making knowledge resources available to students and researchers. The article refers to prominent examples such as the House of Wisdom in Baghdad and the library of Al-Hakam Al-Mustansir in Andalusia, as well as public, school, and mosque libraries, showing the wide-ranging functions of libraries in Islamic society, including education, cultural development, preservation, and scholarly communication. It emphasizes that the flourishing of Islamic libraries was closely linked to the advancement of sciences, arts, and literature, and that these institutions served as beacons of knowledge that preserved Arab-Islamic intellectual heritage and contributed to the broader human cultural movement.
