Abstract
This book review examines “Scholarly Communication Librarianship and Open Knowledge” as an openly licensed textbook and practical guide for librarians and professionals interested in scholarly communication and open knowledge. Published in 2023 by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), the reviewed work combines theory, practice, and case studies, offering practical lessons on open data, open access, open education, open science, copyright, Creative Commons licensing, and scholarly communication services in academic and research libraries. The review outlines the book’s three-part structure: the meaning of scholarly communication, its relationship with open culture, and field-based perspectives and case studies from practitioners and stakeholders. It concludes that the book provides a valuable foundation for library and information science courses and for strengthening scholarly communication practices in academic and research libraries, while also recommending its translation into Arabic for the benefit of the Arab library and information science community.
