Abstract

This study examines the role performed by educational libraries at the primary stage, taking the school library as a learning center and a basic resource for supporting the learner’s cognitive, linguistic, and behavioral development. The article argues that the function of the library at this level does not stop at lending or storing books; rather, it extends to cultivating reading habits, facilitating access to knowledge resources, training pupils in the use of printed, audiovisual, and other learning materials, and linking them with practices of self-learning and active learning. It also presents the aims of the educational library and the related types of libraries, showing their contribution to the development of positive social attitudes such as cooperation, discipline, and responsibility, as well as their role in supporting the curriculum and assisting the teacher within the school environment.

The study also develops an applied dimension by presenting the experience of the classroom library and class-based library project, explaining the conditions for selecting suitable books, the importance of training students in the effective use of library resources, and the need to involve the school, the family, and educational authorities in activating the library’s function. It notes, through the table on page four, that the classroom library project had expanded to 94 schools by the period indicated in the text, and on page five it offers evaluative results and recommendations focusing on student awareness of the library, the development of reading culture, and helping learners choose books appropriate to their age and interests. The article concludes that the educational library at the primary stage constitutes an effective pedagogical instrument in personality formation and learning development when it is properly planned and activated within the school setting.
